Know all men by these presents that we, Thomas Pemberton, John
Prince, Josiah Wingfield and James Garland of Saint anns parish in
the County of Albemarle; andThomas Wingfield, Joseph Wingfield and
Mary Norvell of Saint pauls parish in the County of Hanover Are held
and firmly bound, each to him or herself, to John Wingfield of Saint
pauls parish in the County of Hanover in the just and full Sum of One
hundred thousand pounds good and lawful money of Virginia to be paid
the Said John Wingfield or to his Certain Attorney, his Heirs
Executors,Administrators or Assigns and for which payment will and
truly to be made, webind ourselves, each severally, and for him or
herself, our several heirs, Executors and Administrators firmly by
these presents, Sealed with our Seals and dated this twenty Seventh
Day of September in the year of Our
Lord, One thousand Seven hundred and Seventy nine.
The Condition of the Obligation is Such that of the above
bounded(sic) Thomas Pemberton, John Prince, Josiah Wingfield, James
Garland, Thomas Wingfield, Joseph Wingfield and Mary Norvell Shall
and do each for himself or herself, his or her Heirs and Assigns,
Relinquish allRights, title, Interest, Claim and Demands whatsoever
of them the said ThomasPemberton, John Prince, Josiah Wingfield,
James Garland, Thomas Wingfield, Joseph Wingfield and Mary Norvell
and of their Heirs and Assigns of in or to a Certain Negro woman
Called Sal that belongs to the Estate of John Wingfield, Deceased,
and by his Executors was Sold to his Son, John Wingfield; also that
if the Said Thomas Pemberton, John Prince, Josiah Wingfield, James
Garland, Thomas Wingfield, Joseph Wingfield and Mary Norvell shall
and do, each for him orher Self, his or her Heirs and Assigns permit
or allow the Said John Wingfield, his Heirs and Assigns to have hold
and posses peaceably and Quietly the Said Negro woman together with
all her increase without the least trouble,
hindrance, molestation, Interruption or denial of theirs the said
Thomas Pemberton, John Prince, Josiah Wingfield, James Garland,
Thomas Wingfield, Joseph Wingfield and Mary Norvell, their Heirs or
assigns and also that if the Said ThomasPemberton, John Prince,
Josiah Wingfield, James Garland, Thomas Wingfield, Joseph Wingfield
and Mary Norvell Shall and do, each for him or herself, his or heirs
Assigns Confirm warrent and Defend against them the said Thomas
Pemberton, John Prince, Josiah Wingfield, James Garland, Thomas
Wingfield, Joseph Wingfield and Mary Norvell their Heirs and Assigns
the Said negro woman Sal and her increase, To the Said John Wingfield
his Heirs and Assigns forever, then the above Obligation to be void
Or else to remain in full force and Virtue.
